Wan-ru Cheng / violinist / violist 

Wan-ru stands at the intersection of passion and precision, defining herself as a dynamic force in the classical music realm. Rooted in Amsterdam for the past decade, she seamlessly weaves together diverse cultural influences and musical teachings, creating a tapestry of sound that knows no boundaries.

Artistic Philosophy: In her musical journey, Wan-ru rejects the notion of borders in art, embracing collaboration with artists from various disciplines. Drawing and filming serve as wellsprings of inspiration, fueling her desire to reinterpret old Lied and songs with a contemporary flair.

 Wan-ru has left an indelible mark as a soloist, gracing the stages of prestigious orchestras worldwide. From the Julia Chamber Strings Orchestra to the Taiwan Salut Festival Chamber Orchestra, De Musique en Ré Festival Orchestra, Zhonping Symphony Orchestra, and more, her violin virtuosity has resonated in iconic venues like the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Casa da Musica Porto, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian Lisboa, Konzerthaus Berlin, Musée de l'Armée Paris, and the Taiwan National Theater & Concert Hall..

Wan-ru's musical prowess has garnered recognition, including the Young Talent Awards from Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds for her exceptional work in string quartet, first prize at the Schola Arvenzis International Music Festival, and second prize at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Hochschulwettbewerb. 

 

Dedication to her craft is exemplified by Wan-ru's violin, generously sponsored by Gowrings Continental BV.
